Freud divided the mind into the conscious mind and the unconscious mind. He suggested that the conscious mind absorbs only 10% of the actual capacity of the mind with the remaining 90% being used by the subconscious. The use of an iceberg image to visually emphasize the point that the conscious part of the mind consumes only a limited portion of the workings (above the water) while the subconscious, the unaware part, is involved with the vast portion of the mind’s workings. (Visually the below the water segment)
The idea of internalized unconscious processes in the mind was present in antiquity and has been explored across a wide variety of cultures. Unconscious aspects of mentality were referred to between 2,500 and 600 BC in the Hindu texts known as the Vedas and can be found today in Ayurvedic medicine.
The mantras, the oldest part of the Vedas, are recited in the modern age for their phonology (sounds) rather than their semantics and are considered to be “primordial rhythms of creation”. Semantics is the linguistic subfield that studies meaning rather than sounds.
In reality the constant repetition of a single affirmation” I love myself” is a subtle form of self-hypnosis. The effort to focus on one phrase and to repeat it multiple times creates a minor trance state. This movement to work consciously with the unconscious is what imbeds the affirmation in the psyche. Hopefully the choice of the phrase to repeat is a good one for the person. Of course, it requires making a choice from a myriad of suggested affirmations. One can find lists upon lists of statements to choose from. How many are directed at the core of the spirit of the person? Seemingly not many.
What should be considered the core of the person? The consciousness that is expressed outwardly, the subconscious that takes over when the conscious sleeps (Think in terms of rapid eye movement) or is there more? Thinkers great and small have grappled with those thoughts for millennia.
Some have conjectured that there are seven aspects of a person:
Spirit (Soul), Spiritual Mind (A connection to a godhead). Intellect, Instinctive Mind (The accumulated history of the race), The Energic Force (The energy that is accumulated from everything that surrounds us), Astral Body (That which encloses the subconscious in all its forms), and the Physical Body.
The affirmation that is offered here attempts to deal with all of these aspects of the person. The long audio files have a 34-phrase silent affirmation added to the many different music and sound files.
The affirmation added to the different soundtracks comes from several sources. Meditative studies,
far eastern literature, philosophical readings, current gobbledygook on the benefits of meditation and other stuff.
The complete affirmation is just barely covered in the short audio clips. They are presented to offer a sound bite to judge if the longer file would appeal on a musical or sound basis.
Currently there are five long sound tracks available to present the affirmation multiple times.
